FIZZ BOOM READ!

Click here to listen to our new hit song "Fizz, Boom, Read!"

"The Blue Sky Puppet Theatre was wonderful to work with as a performer for the "One World, Many Stories", "Dream Big, Read!" and "Dig Into Reading" summer reading programs at the DC Public Library. The programs were tailored for our customers and complemented the themes of the summer reading programs perfectly. Original music compositions, handmade puppets and a full size puppet theater brought the shows "alive". Engaging for all age groups birth-99+."

Without hesitation we would recommend you and look forward to using you again in the future. The children thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and you provided a well planned event that all ages could enjoy."

“Rufus Meets Dr. Science”
Produced for the National Library Summer Reading Series 2014!
Story Board

Rufus, a shy little dog, has been lost from his owner. He's been stuck out in the rain, and hasn't had anything to eat for two weeks. He meets the audience, and asks for their help.
The audience helps Rufus bark to get the attention of the teacher of the school. Dr. Science, a teacher at the Fizz Boom Read School of Science and Technology, is apprehensive about helping Rufus because he thinks Rufus is "different looking."
To show the audience what a real dog looks like using the scientific method of "compare and contrast", Dr. Science calls for a dog but gets a log and a frog instead. Hilarious!
We finally meet Dr. Science's dog, Bucky, after the audience helps call him by his name. Bucky thinks Rufus is funny looking, but mentions the idea of having Rufus attend class at their school.
Rufus attends his first class and meets the teacher, Banana Man. This unusual professor gives Rufus a reading lesson. With the help of the audience Rufus learns to sound out some letters. Before leaving, Banana Man suggests that Rufus should paint his nose purple to fit in with all the other dogs. Rufus asks the audience if he should paint his nose to fit in. He doesn't think he should change to make people like him.
We meet Rufus's second teacher, Gorga Blast, a dragon. Rufus interacts with a series of animated talking numbers as they add, subtract and multiply. Engineering concepts are explored. Rufus is quite disheartened by other character's inability to accept Rufus for who he is. So Rufus goes off into the woods to howl.

Dr. Science appears and talks to some flowers about whether or not Rufus should stay with him. The flowers tell him that "Every flower is Different", and "Different is Special". Dr. Science, using STEM methods, learns the meaning of individuality, and that Rufus is special because he's different. He calls Rufus up and he apologizes to him and tells Rufus that he can stay with him. And of course, everyone lives happily ever after.
